Python User Groups

Below is a listing of Python User Groups, local gatherings of Python enthusiasts. If your group isn't listed or if your information is out of date, please write webmaster@python.org. If your group has a special event you'd like to see listed on the Events page, please write events@python.org.

Python User Groups are sometimes called PIGgies, for Python Interest Group meetings. The term PIGgies was coined by the Bay Area PIGgies group.

03-Jun-2003: We're now able to host user group mailing lists! The lists are hosted on usergroups.python.net. If you would like us to host your PIGgie mailing list, please follow these directions.

There was an ONLamp article last year about user groups.

Requesting a mailing list on usergroups.python.net

If you'd like us to host your PIGgie mailing list on usergroups.python.net, please write to webmaster@python.org and include the following required information:
  • The name of your user group. This will be used as the list name @usergroups.python.net, so make sure it's unique.
  • The location of your user group (city, state, province, country).
  • The name and email address of your group leader. This person will become the mailing list administrator.
  • Your user group's primary web site, if available.
  • Your mailing list's primary discussion language, if not English. Note that if this is one of the languages supported by GNU Mailman, we'll make it the default language for your list (English will always be an option).
We will auto-generate a password for the list administrator, and the group leader will receive a confirmation message with this password as notification that the list has been created. If we have questions before creating the list, we'll contact the group leader. Once the list is created, you'll be free to customize it and open it up for the public.
