I this is what have used Python for:

A dialog manager for a user interface management tool (with Motif).
Python was inserted at the point that XtCallbacks were called, and the
python code was executed instead...

I wrote simple interfaces to the Xt widgets, and was able to do quite
a bit, including calling the original callbacks if necessary.

Now I am considering doing the same thing for OpenLook (OLIT).
