Project Goals

Flightdeck-UI is Open Source Software. Its goals are listed below.

• To provide libraries and applications with general-purpose GUI elements based on the user interface ideas from hard real-time systems (notably aircraft).

• To serve as a bridge for real-time design concepts into the realm of general-purpose user interface design.

• To incorporate ideas learned in this project back into real-time systems.

• To come up with user interface systems that are not just imitations of what is already in common use.

• To reduce operator error caused by interface deficiencies.

• To provide a platform for experimentation with user interfaces — hence this project is releasing code as early as possible as per the Open Source Software philosophy.
