This new kernel for the PowerPC version of the BeOS fixes a problem that
was introduced as of Release 3.1.  The problem is that the source level
debugger crashes when trying to debug another program.

This update is for experimental purposes only.

Please follow the installation instructions carefully.  Incorrect 
installation of this new kernel can render the BeOS unusable, forcing
you to reinstall the BeOS from a CD.  

To install, you will first download a script file, then enter commands in
a terminal window to run the script.  The script will download the update,
back up your existing kernel, and install the update.

In the instructions that follow, a line of the form 

	enter "ftp ftp.be.com"

means to type in the exact text inside the double-quotes and then press return.

Step by step instructions:

1) open a Terminal window

2) use ftp to download the script file 'run-me-to-install'.

   If you are not sure how to use ftp, here are the detailed instructions:
   a) enter "ftp ftp.be.com"
   b) at the login prompt, enter "ftp"
   c) at the password prompt, enter your email address
   d) at the '>' prompt, enter "cd pub/experimental/r3.1/980618-ppc"
   e) at the '>' prompt, enter "get run-me-to-install"
   f) at the '>' prompt, enter "bye"

3) enter "./run-me-to-install".  Wait patiently while the update is downloaded
   and installed.  Progress messages will tell you when the update is done.

4) restart your system
